Mostly because I'm surprised we've never had this kind of meme before. We love high school AUs. We love romance. Why not combine those into a glorious mix?

Your teen years are important, formatively speaking. You're trying to find out just where you belong and what kind of person you're going to be. This already daunting task is complicated by the soul-sucking demon known as high school. If you weren't having a hard time before coming here, you certainly are now.

Add into this mixture raging hormones, and baby, you've got a misery stew cooking. But it's not all bad! Sometimes high school crushes can be sweet, and the occasional high school relationship lasts.

So whether you're too cool or distracted for romance or always on to the next good looking stud, come on down and try to navigate the romantic labyrinth that is the halls of Bakerstreet High.

You've been traveling for days. Or, knowing you people, you just got out of a fight. Whatever your outer (and inner) turmoil, you're just chuffed to finally get some hot water and rest.

To your delight and surprise, the bath is even better than you could have ever imagined. The digs could range from a secluded hot spring in the mountains, a marble pool in some obscenely rich mansion, or a surprisingly nice bath on a starship. It's great. Unfortunately, you don't get to enjoy it alone.

Do you pretend you don't see them and look forward? Try to strike up small talk? Help them with washing the caked dirt out of their hair? There's always the option to sink down to your chin and pray they don't bother you.

Hop on in, the water's grand.

Most societies have certain mores that are unspoken rules; humanity itself even has such conventions, grilled subconsciously into our minds for our own safety. Don't go out alone at night. Avoid getting wet when it's cold. Don't pick fights with those stronger than you...okay, some of us missed the boat on the last one, but the point still stands. Society's rules tend to be more variable, though they apply to most aspects of life - including sex. In fact, bending the rules on what's considered acceptable in romance and sexual encounters can lead to anything from ostracization to death, depending on the time and culture.

So, play it close to the chest if you're going to do a big, big, big t a b o o. Is it worth the risk?

A lush garden scene

THE GARDEN MEME

There is a garden, and it has always been there, and it has always been waiting for somebody.

The first part is all cottage flowers and crooked little paths, herbs growing wherever they'll fit, fruit trees heavy with something ripe, butterflies, warm grass, and a greenhouse tucked off to one side. There's a fountain somewhere beyond the lawn, plenty of shade, and more than enough places to sit.

Further in, the hedges get taller.

The paths narrow. Roses climb over walls and archways until they're everywhere, and somewhere past all that green is a maze.

Some parts of the garden are nicer than others. Gardens are like that. So are the things that keep them.

Come in. Have a strawberry. Every gate is easier to enter than to leave, but you knew that.
